If You Could Thank one Person

I was asked this question:
If you were to tell one person “Thank You” for helping you become the person you are today, who would it be and what did they do?

I knew who it was immediately.

My Mom.
She taught me without words how to treat people.
I saw how she showed her love for family and friends.

It made me want to be just like her.

I saw her strength and courage through the hardships we faced together.
She always ensured that my sister, Elizabeth and I, were well taken care of.
Physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

I don’t thank her enough for helping me become who I am today.

When I was a little girl I told people that my Mom was my hero.

I still want to be just like her.

She embraced change because she had to.
She put the most important people first in her life and she was a fierce protector for us.
We always knew that everything would be alright.

I will always feel a swell of pride, intense love and wonder at the love my Mom shows me.

There is no way I can show how much I love and appreciate her.

  1. Oh Alicia! This post just made me cry because I would also thank my mom for being the person I am today! She passed away a little over 5 years ago and not a single day goes by that I don’t miss her and think about her. She was the best role model and example for me and my brother. Thank you for writing this beautiful post!

  2. I would have to say that the person who has affected me most in my life is my first child I was barely out of high school when I gave birth to my son. There’s something about having a child that changes you especially at such a tender age of life. I went from thinking about classes grades proms boyfriends all things which were very important to me, to thinking about a child another life who needed me and relied on me. Holding my beautiful new baby boy in my arms instantaneously changed me. I was a whole new person. Knowing that he would grow up looking up to me as his mother learning from me and being guided by me changed me. I wanted to be a person who my child would grow up and be proud to say was his mother. I think my son for the changes he brought to my life. I know that I’m a better person now after having had four children than I ever would have been had I not had any children at all.
